300 or more words challenge!

Today for period 3 we are wrtiting a story about what we did in the holidays or something that you have done in the past, we had to write 300 words or more. I wrote 547 words. Here is my story.

The best time with my COUSIN!

I was waiting and waiting to see my cousin Jean. I haven’t seen her for a month but finally the day was there! Last Saturday I got to stay the night with Jean at our uncle’s house but before that I had to watch my sister’s play softball and also I saw Jean there because she plays softball too. Around 8.30, we had to leave to go to my sister’s softball game but I really didn’t want to go because I was tired, but I am really glad I went because I saw Jean but if I didn’t go, I wouldn’t be able to see her or stay the night with her!

Jean is a cousin that I have known my whole life and we grew up with each other! When we were little kids we used to fight a lot just like sister’s. Jean is just like a little sister to me but one thing I don’t like about her is that she is taller than me but I’m older than her but you know I have to move on because that’s just how she was born.

After my sister game’s I went to watch a little of Jean’s game because I want to be a nice cousin! After I watch Jean’s game, she asked me if I want to go and stay with her at our uncle’s house. So I did. I got home and went into the shower and got ready and my step dad dropped me off at my uncle’s house. When I got there Me and Jean just chilled a little… 30 minutes later, we walked down to the supermarket to get some junk food for tonight because you know you need junk food to make your night better!

3 hours later…
We asked my uncle if we could go Ice skating because we were bored and we want to go somewhere. My uncle said yes and then dropped us off at 7.30pm and we didn’t leave until 9.30pm. I had so much fun at ice skating because I got to learn how to actually get into the middle by not holding onto the sides, I’m very proud of myself and also you would probably want to know who helped me. Jean helped me to get into the middle by not holding onto the sides. After that we keep skating until 9.00 and then we got something to eat.
We sat down and ate until we had to leave. After all that, my uncle picked us up and we asked him if we can go into the spa because we were cold after ice skating. He said yes, after we got home we went straight into our togs and we went into the spa and we stayed there for like 30 minutes.

30 minutes later... Our skin was almost peeling off because we were in there for a long time After all that we got into our pj and just chilled and watched movies while we were eating our loilles. After all of that, it was 12.00pm and we were so exhausted, so we went to sleep. This was probably one of the best times with my cousin. I’M SO HAPPY THAT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO HANGOUT WITH MY COUSIN AGAIN!

Gardening / CIP

This week for CIP we have been fousing on the weeding and the diging. What I did was, I dig dirt up so we could grow some other plants and we also were going to start another role but the it was time to go back to class. We got to pick where we what to go and what we want to do. The area I was doing was pulling out the weeds and diging. I was doing it with Anneleise and Janel. We find some while we were diging and I think the worms when they help to increase the amount of air and water that gets into the soil and they also can't survive in the sun other wise they could dry up and die.

After we finish weeding, Mr Tisch poured small little seeds into our hand for us to sprinkle it all over the dirt and then we left them sitting there waiting. The seeds we planted was Watermelon, Carrot and Corn.

After all of that, we started to help the others because we had nothing to do. We help by cleaning up all the gardening tools. The period was success for me and I really enjoyed doing Tane Mahuta and I am glad that I pick Tane Mahuta but we will be back into it next Wednesday.

Why is basketball better than netball?- persuasive writing

This term we have been focsuing on persuasive writing. This is my first time doing it and I'm acutally proud of my work. Here is my persuasive writing that I worte and I hope you like it.

Why is basketball better than netball?

Have you heard about Steven Adams? He is a famous NBA basketball player from New Zealand. Steven Adams has 10,000 fans in America but if you was a netball player/star, you won't get so much fans.

That is why I think basketball is better than netball!

Why I think basketball is better than netball because over 29.04 million people go and watch the NBA team play but only 1.2 million go or watch the Silver Ferns netball team play. Basketball has more players than netball because boys and girls can play both sports but if a boy plays netball, they would feel really uncomfortable.

Basketball is a better sport because you can earn more money, the money you can earn for basketball is over $3.1 million but only netball gets about $30,000.

That's why you should pick basketball not netball!

Why I think basketball is better than netball because basketball has been alive for many of year but netball hasn't been here for that long. For basketball there is more longer games, you work more as a team, everyone has there own postion to play and you can be more agressive.

I hope you pick basketball because is is a better sports to play and you will have more fun!

CIP Gardening

This week for CIP we have been fousing on the weeding and the diging. What I did was, I dig dirt up so we could grow potatos and we also made another one for another vegetables. We got to pick where we what to go and what we want to do. The area I was doing was pulling out the weeds and diging. I was doing it with Anneleise, Janel and Addyson. After all of that, we started to help the others because we had nothing to do. We help by cleaning up all the gardening tools.

The period was success for me and I really enjoyed doing Tane Mahuta and I am glad that I pick Tane Mahuta but we will be back into it next Wednesday. Next Wednesday we are back there and doing it again.

Science- Climate Change and the future

Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future.

What places will be effected?- Pacific Island and just different places in New Zealand.

What else do we need to think about?- The people that live near rivers.

What other places around NZ will be affected?- Timaru, Gisborne, Whangarei, Nelson, Whanganui.

What does this do to our drinking water?- It makes our water taste like salt water.

What are the main concerns?- The salt water will be going into other people water from underground.

What can we do?
  1.   Electricity Cars.
  2.   Public Transpots.
  3.   Try not use to much energy.

What is the one, silver bullet solution?
There is no silver bullet.

What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
  1.   Renewable things
  2.   Transpot
What are 3 others you can think of?
  1.   Recycling more
  2. More running and walking instead of using Electricity
  3.   Resuing more
Activities:

Carbon Footprint:

Carbon Footprint explained

Dwelling
Water
Recreation
Heating and cooling
Electricity
Transportation
Food
Waste
Air Travel
Consumption
Colour 1: for actions they are already doing
Colour 2: for actions that they pledge to undertake in the future

Ecological Handprint The Ecological handprint builds on the concepts from the Carbon Footprint. We will look at the positive actions of:

  1. Transportation
  2. Community
  3. Consumption
  4. Water
  5. Food
  6. Home
  7. Waste

    Fossil Fuels- Science

Aim: To learn about the impact of fossil fuels on our environment.

    What Fossil Fuels are mined?

    1.   Coal
    2.   Oil
    3.   Gas

    How are they mined?

    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.

    Where are they mined?

    1.
    2.
    3.

    Material:
    1.  Cookie
    2.   Toothpick
    3.   Plate
    Steps:
    1. Draw a picture of the Cookie.
    2. Draw a picture of a Habitat.
    3. Start mining the Chocolate Chips off the cookie without breaking it.
    4. Count how many Chocolate Chips you have mined and then show the teacher.
    5. Eat the cookie if you want too.
    6. Then answer the questions about your Habitat.

    Picture of cookie and habitat:

    Conclusion:
Today in science, we have been focusing on fossil fuels. We did some mining on a cookie, drew some pictures of the cookie and a habitat and then answered some questions related to the habitat that we have chose. During the lesson, I have learned that mining actually effects our environment and our surroundings.

    Stop motion story

Here is a link to my story-  Stop motion story/ Bullying- Kindness

This year we have been given the wonderful opportunity to be in a great group for Art.

We have been focusing on making our stop motion this term.
This stop motion took us the whole term just to finish it.

Making a stop motion is not easy because you have to get the great angles,
edit it to make it better and then do the voice over.

Our stop motion is about bullying and kindness.
I was in a group with Anneleise, Kineka and Chloe. Here is my story that I wrote about it.
I'm so happy and proud of my group because I think our stop motion was to a high standard
and my group has learnt so many thing this term in art and I think I'm going to do art for next year.
I hope you like my writing about my story.

Aim: To make a presentation that investigates different renewable energy's.

    Section 1: Title Page

Make a title page that incorporates all renewable energy 's Hydro, Solar, Wind and Wave.

I have done my title page on paper.

    Section 2: Definitions

Define and provide a picture of each energy type.

    1. Hydro Energy
    2. Solar Energy
    3. Wind Energy
    4. Wave Energy

Section 3; Investigate each of the 4 Energy types.
( Hydro ,Solar ,Wind ,Wave )

    1. Type:
Hydro Energy- Hydroelectric energy is energy derived from the movement of waterWater has mass. It falls and flows downward due to gravity.

Solar Energy- Solar energy is the term used to describe the light and heat produced by the sun. Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity.

Wind Energy- Wind energy refers to capturing the energy from moving air, wind and converting it into electricity.

Wave Energy- Wave energy is the transport and capture of energy by ocean surface waves and thenergy captured is then used for all different kinds of useful work, including electricity generation, water desalination, and pumping of water.
    1. Is it used in NZ ?
Hydro/Wind - New Zealand has excellent renewable electricity resources. We've got hydro, wind and geothermal up the wazoo. In a typical year, more than 70% of our electricity comes from renewable sources, and the government wants this to increase to 90% by 2025 (for non-dry years).

Wave- yesNew Zealand is very fortunate in its wave energy resource.

    Solar- I don't know.

    1. Other Countries that use it?
Hydro- Yes, There are other countries that have hydro power such as China, Canada, Brazil, the United States and Russia, they also have big land masses.

Solar- Yes,  China, United states, Japan, Germany, India, Italy, United Kingdom and Australia have Solar Energy

Wind- Yes,  France, Canada United Kingdom, Spain, India, Germany, United States and China have Wind energy.

Wave-  Yes,The Western coasts of Scotland, Northern Canada, Southern Africa, Australia, Northwest Coast of United States and particularly Alaska have Wind energy.
    1. How is it used to generate electricity?
    2. Draw and label a diagram of the main parts of the electricity generator? This can be done on paper and uploaded or on a drawing program on your device. I do not want any Internet images or pictures. They must be hand drawn using a ruler and labelled.
    1.
    2.
    3.

    4.

Section 4: Renewable Energy in the future.

List 10 ways that renewable energy will be used in the future to replace our current activities.
