Wind Power- Science



Measuring weather.

Definitions:

Typhoon means: Typhoon is a tropical storm that is really strong in indian or western Pacific oceans. 

Monsoon means: Monsoon is a seasonal prevailling wind and the season of the southwest monsoon in India and adjacent areas that is characterized by very heavy rainfall. 

Anemometer means: Anemometer is an instrument for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas.

Beaufort wind scale: Beaufort wind scale is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or no land.

Anemometer

MATERIALS 

  1. 2 Sticks  
  2.  Four cups
  3. Pencil  
  4. Pin 
  5. Cellotape
  6. Sticky Note
  7. Scissors.


STEPs

  1.  Get all of your materials from the teacher.   
  2.  Tape the 2 stick together into a cross
  3.  Tape the 4 cups to the end of the sticks  
  4.  Put the pin into the middle of the 2 sticks  
  5.  pin the pencil together
  6.  Put your sticky note onto one of the 4 cups

Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5 
Roles:
  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind Manager
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

CONCLUSION:

This week in Science we have been focusing on Wind power. Wind power is how the wind is so powerful that can break anything like for a example it can break cars and window and also there are different kinds of powerful winds. One of them are Typhoon, Typhoon is a tropical storm that is really strong in indian or western Pacific oceans. For science we had to be in a group of 5 and in my group was Anneleise, Bailey, Janel and Khaylanie and then all of us had to make a Anemometer.

On the Field there are 80 spins per minute,13-20 wind speed and 3 beautfort scale. In the old J block there are 60 spins per a mintue, 51-61 wind spped and 7 beautfort scale. On the Grass hill there are 40 spins per a mintue, 40-50 wind speed and 6 beautfort scale. On the Tennis court gate are 12 spins per a mintue, 6-12 wind speed and 2 beautfort scale. In my conclusion the field has the highest spins.

2040 Documentary- Science

Today in period 3, we watched a Documentary about Solar and Climate Change. We watched the Documentary with Ts, Mt and Ds. The Documentary was very long because it took the whole period up but it was worth it because there was all of information about Climate Change and Solar. What surprised me in the Documentary was the Damon Gameau because he knew mostly everything about Solar and Climate Change and he was the mostly only one talking in the Documentary.

What Damon Gameau did was travel all around the world and talked to other people and ask what they want future and how they prevent global warming. Bangledesh was very smart, what they did was they used this boz. What it did was it collect the solar engry and then it would save it. Then if the owners wanted to they could share it to others that needed the power. Damon Gameau went to lots of countires.

At night when they needed power, they would use the box and use the power because what the box did was it saved the power and then when they needed if they could use it.

Climate Change and Greenhouse gases

AIM: To look at Climate change and the Greenhouse Effcet.


    The Greenhouse Effect experiment

    Materials

    1. 1 Plastic Bottle.
    2. 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda and Citric Acid.
    3. 3 Heat Lamp.
    4. 2 Thermometer.
    5. 100 ml water.
    6. 1 Rubber Bung.

    Procedure:
    1. Come and collect all of the Materials from Mr Plamer.
      1. Setting up the lights,bottles,Thermomter and bungs.
      2. Mr Palmer add the Baking soda mix with 100 ml of water.
      3. Wait for 5 mintues and start recording the temtperture.

      Variables: 
      All water added to the bottles was from the classroom tap.

      Conclusion:

      This week we have been learning around Climate Change and the Greenhouse Gases. The bottle of water didn't heat up as much as the bottles of gas in it. What I learnt was that the whole experiment because I have never heard of Climate Change. I really like this experiment and I hope I could do it again:)
