Water Cycle- Science

Last week in week 6, my class and Ds has been focusing on Climate Change in Science. We did a experiment about the weather cycle and I was in a group with Sierra and Rowina. We had to get a zip lock bag and draw the weather cycle on it and add some couple of ingredients in the bag and hang it up on the glass window where there is sun shining.

Here is a screenshot of my template with the materials and steps on it:

Title

Experiment 1 and Experiment 2:
 Weather Cycle

Purpose

To understand the Water Cycle

Materials

Experiment 1:
1x Zip lock bag
1x Vivid pen
2x strips of Double sided tape
½ a cup of water
2x drops of blue food colouring
1x Scissors

Experiment 2:
1x Zip lock bag
1x vivid pen
2x strips of double sided tape
½ a cup of water
2x drops of blue food colouring
1x Scissors
1x teaspoon of baking powder
1x Litmus paper
1x Soda water

Steps

Experiment 1:

Step 1:
Grab your Zip lock bag.

Step 2:
Grab a vivid pen.

Step 3:
Draw the water cycle on the zip lock bag with the vivid.

Step 4:
Get the 2x of the strip double tape.

Step 5:
Stick the tape on the top below the zip and at the bottom of the bag.

Step 6:
Carefully add ½ a cup of warm water
and 2x drops of blue food colouring into the bag.

Step 7:
Close the zip lock bag and give it to the teacher to stick on the glass
window where there is sun shining on.

Experiment 2 steps:

Step 1:
Grab your zip lock bag

Step 2:
Grab a vivid pen

Step 3:
Draw the water cycle on the zip lock bag with the vivid.

Step 4:
Get the 2x of the strip double tape.

Step 5:
Stick the tape on the top below the zip and at the bottom of the bag.

Step 6:
Carefully add ½ a cup of warm water and soda water into the bag.

Step 7: Add 2x drops of blue food colouring into the bag.

Step 8:
Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder into the bag

Step 9:
Close the zip lock bag with the litmus paper at the tip of the zip
and give it to the teacher to stick on the glass window where there is sun shining on.

Conclusion

I think the outcome of experiment 1 is going to look the same
because it’s only blue food colouring in water.

I think the outcome of experiment 2 is going to probably change
because you have added baking powder into the water with the blue food colouring
and also used the litmus paper in there to see if it has changed colour.

For bag 1 it did a small amount of the water cycle and it also had a small amount of water.
For bag 2 the water cycle was no change at all and the water didn't change.

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large

Conclusion:

The normal water cycle did have a little movement through the cycle and the water stayed the same.

The water cycle with acid didn't do anything to the litmus paper and the water stayed the same as well.

Stop Motion Story - Hurumanu / Art

For art we have been focusing on making a stop motion. Our stop motion is about bullying and kindness. Here is the story about it.

Hi my name is Trinity, today was the last day of the holiday, I am starting school again tomorrow but I wasn’t excited to go. I was the one that had no friends at school. Tonight is the night that I had to go back in my school routine, I had to go to sleep at 8.30pm and woke up at 7.00am to go to school but I didn’t want to go. I keep repeating myself to my mum that I didn’t want to go.

In the morning I had a really painful tummy and I knew why. When I get anxiety I get a painful tummy or headache. I usually have to go to the counsellor before school starts because I really get bad anxiety and I can’t handle it. My Mum pushed me to get out of bed, I got out of bed 7.10am and I said to Mum at “ Mum I am going to try and go to school just for you,'' Mum said “ I am really proud of you honey”.

Once I got out of bed, I got ready for school. Mum dropped me off but I still had that painful tummy so I went to the counsellor. Once I finish seeing the counsellor, I felt a bit better. I went to my class and I sat down by myself on a chair near the table. I got settled into my seat and I went straight into my work, but these two girls came to my table.

Victoria, Jasmine are the popular girls, but they are so mean to me. They are in every class that I have at school and it’s so annoying because I just get bullied me non stop. I am so confused why Victoria and Jasmine always bully me but I do know one thing. They always look at my clothes but I thought that I had a good style, but I guess not.

When Victoria and Jasmine was at my table they were looking at my clothes and my face and just laughing, I didn’t like that. My face turned red like I was embarrassed.  At morning tea time they came and stole my lunch and I tried to get it back but they grabbed my hair and started pulling it.

10 minutes later..
RING RING ( bell ringing)
Morning tea was finished. I got inside the classroom but someone came up to me. This girl introduced herself to me, her name is Isabella. She was so kind, I have never had a person comes up to me and talk so kind. She said to me “I have been trying to talk to you and I know what has been going on at school, I know the feeling it’s not nice, I have gone through it too”. Isabella put a smile on my face, Isabella said “ I am going to talk to those girls and make them stop because I don’t like it and you don’t like it too”, I said “ok” (smiley).

Isabella told Victoria and Jasmine to stop bullying me and then they both walk off with a sad face. I said to Isabella “ Thank you so much, Thank you so much”. Isabella said “You are really pretty and nice, would you like to be my friend?” I said “ OMG YES, I haven’t ever had a friend that actually care about me but I just need to say one more thing, THANK YOU SO MUCH”.

20 minutes later…
Victoria and Jasmine came up to me and ask me something but I didn’t want to talk to them but Isabella said “Just see what they are going to say ok” I said “ok”. Victoria and Jasmine asked me a question. They said “We are both so so sorry for bullying you, we were just jealous because you were so pretty but If you want can you just forget about all of this and just be friends”...  I said “ ok, I would like to be your friend but could you be friends with Isabella too”, Victoria and Jasmine said “ yes I would love too”.

I am no longer unhappy because I have friends NOW!!

MY DREAM HOUSE!

Today for CIP we were going to go to the garden but it was raining so we had little activities to do.

Here are the activities we had to do.

I picked to use TinkerCad to create a 3D model of your dream house and Garden. Use google to get some inspiration for your house.

It was my first time using TinkerCad and it was really hard to make a house, you would want to make it the way in discrible the real you and this is what my dream house turned out to be.

I choose the colour of my house because I like those colours and it suits together. Why I did this layout because it was really easy to make and I tried to make a 2 story house but I didn't know what shapes to use so I did a 1 story house, but I hope one day you could make your own dream house like I did today and I hope you like what I created.

Hurumanu / Science Decomposing and Recycling

Aim: To learn about the rate that different materials decompose.

Hypothesis: I think Banana or Bread will rot the faster because banana will get warm and it will get all rotted and Bread can get all soggy.

Materials:

  1.  Bread + water.
  2.  Paper.
  3.  Banana.
  4.  Styrophone.
  5.  4 testTubes.
  6. Test tube rack
Steps:
  1.   Collect the Materials abd take them to your table.
  2.  Sort out the Materials.
  3.  Add all the 4 equipment into the 4 tubes.
  4.  Get a sticky note off the teacher and write your groups name.

    Wind Power- Science

    Measuring weather.

    Definitions:

Typhoon means: Typhoon is a tropical storm that is really strong in indian or western Pacific oceans.

Monsoon means: Monsoon is a seasonal prevailling wind and the season of the southwest monsoon in India and adjacent areas that is characterized by very heavy rainfall.

Anemometer means: Anemometer is an instrument for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas.

Beaufort wind scale: Beaufort wind scale is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or no land.

    Anemometer

    MATERIALS

    1. 2 Sticks
    2.  Four cups
    3. Pencil
    4. Pin
    5. Cellotape
    6. Sticky Note
    7. Scissors.

    STEPs

    1.  Get all of your materials from the teacher.
    2.  Tape the 2 stick together into a cross
    3.  Tape the 4 cups to the end of the sticks
    4.  Put the pin into the middle of the 2 sticks
    5.  pin the pencil together
    6.  Put your sticky note onto one of the 4 cups

    Group Investigation.

    Groups size: 5
    Roles:
    • Timekeeper
    • Counter
    • Recorder
    • Anemometer Manager
    • Wind Manager
    1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
    2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
    3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

    FINDINGS

    • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
    • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

    CONCLUSION:

This week in Science we have been focusing on Wind power. Wind power is how the wind is so powerful that can break anything like for a example it can break cars and window and also there are different kinds of powerful winds. One of them are Typhoon, Typhoon is a tropical storm that is really strong in indian or western Pacific oceans. For science we had to be in a group of 5 and in my group was Anneleise, Bailey, Janel and Khaylanie and then all of us had to make a Anemometer.

On the Field there are 80 spins per minute,13-20 wind speed and 3 beautfort scale. In the old J block there are 60 spins per a mintue, 51-61 wind spped and 7 beautfort scale. On the Grass hill there are 40 spins per a mintue, 40-50 wind speed and 6 beautfort scale. On the Tennis court gate are 12 spins per a mintue, 6-12 wind speed and 2 beautfort scale. In my conclusion the field has the highest spins.
