Crystals- Science

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals
Definition of solution
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)

Definition of saturated
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)

In groups of three you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.

Conclusion:

Today in science we did a experiment called crystals but I didn't do the experimetnt because I wasn't here on Thursday. This time in science I had different people in my group, Anneleise, Janel, Khaylanie and Baliey.

We had to get three cups and add borax, Sugar and salt in each one, then add the warm water and mix with a Popsicle stick. After that we tied a string onto the stick and placed it into the cups with Sugar and salt. Then we had to leave it at school for two weeks and see whats changed when we come back

After watching the videos as a class, explain how the following crystals are formed:

Type
Explanation
Salt
Salt is formed by the evaporation of satly water (such as sea water).

Sugar
Sugar is made from raw sugar and is from sugarcane or sugar beet.

Snowflakes
A snowflakes is fromed what is droplet of cold water freezes.

Interchange/Maths

In the past two weeks of school we have been doing maths but in diffrerent classrooms and with different teachers. 7/8sh, 7/8ts and 7/8tz has been doing interchange maths as well. We have been going to diffrerent classes for maths and started sharing our learning with them. I am with Miss Birtch class for math and I also have some of my friends in my maths class, I have Anneleise, Mikayla, Brianna and Shanarnia. I am really lucky that I have friends to work with.

In maths we did a small test to see what level we are on and what group we will get put in. I got put in a group called TAPAWHA and we started off with a blue text book and I think that is the hardest book you could do. We were learning how many tens are there in numbers less than 1000 and the PK is Place value. We started learning our first object and I struggled at the start but then later on that day I started to understand it properly.

Here is an exmples on how to work out on of the questions.
The store only has $100 notes, $10 notes and $1 coins and I wanted to buy a watch which cost $360. My stragtegie I did was I got 3 hundred notes and 6 tens notes to make it $360, because 3 hundred dollars notes are 300 and 6 tens dollars notes are 60 so I have the right anmout of money to buy the watch.

Here is a question for you to solve:

A pair of ruby earrings for $2074
How do you solve it.

Filtration-Science

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Image result for filtration science experiment
Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Cleaning
  2.  Kettle
  3.  Pool
  4. Heat pump

Materials

1. Cups
2. Filter papaer
3. Funnel
4. Sand
5. Water Bottle
6. Rocks
7.  Container
8.

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle with the scissorns to make a funnel.

Step 2

Put the top half upside down and place it into the bottom half of the bottle.

STEP 3

Add layers of sand and pebbels into the funnel and then put it in the top half of the bottle.

STEP 4
Get 1 cup of dirty water

STEP 5

Pour dirty water into the funnel with the sand and rocks in it.

Findings
When we added the dirty water into the funnel, the dirty water went very fast and our was a fail. The water at the botton was very dirty and muddy with all the little peices and the rocks.

Conclusion: This experiement I did today was probably my least favourite one because we had to touch lots of disgusting pieces and dirty water. The water the flowed through the fitler was clear with a green tinge. The bark, soil and leaves sat on top of the rocks. I learnt something that is interesting was how to make a fitler, I reckon next time for me I should put the rocks carefully into the funnel because all of the water went staright down. I hope you enjoy and I will be posting a lot of experiment that you would be exited to do and I hope you learnt something off me.

What Is White Powder?

Today you will be a Forensic Chemist.
A bag of white powder has been confiscated by the airport customs.  You need to find out what white powder it is?

Aim: To learn about the makeup of different white powders.

There are  a number of different white powders in our everyday life. Some of these are harmful and others are not. Test the four white powders listed to see which one has been found at the airport.

Here are some examples of everyday kitchen white powders.

Flour, Cornflour, Sugar, Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder, Icing Sugar, Tartaric Acid

Citric Acid, Gluten Free flour

You will be given a small amount of 4 white powders on your cardboard. On the black cardboard using a magnifying glass look at the powders.
Look at them under your magnifying glass and record what you see.

These are the four powders we will be using. Upload a photo of each powder.

1.  Cornflour
2.  Baking Soda
3.  Salt
4.  Sugar

Before you add the iodine, vinegar or water you will need to divide each powder into 3.

Materials

1.  Iodine
2.  Vinegar
3.  Water
4.  Pipette
5.  Cardboard
6.  Pen

Steps

1.  Fold cardboard in 4
2.   Write in each of the boxes on the card what white powder will go there.
3.  Put all of you're whie powder on the card.
4.  Divide the 4 white powder into 3 piles.
5.  Put Iodine but only do 3 drop but just put it in one pile in each white powder.
6. Put vinegar but only do 3 drop but just put it in one pile in each white powder.

Findings:

Sugar
Salt
Baking Soda
Cornflour
Appearance
It changed into different colour.Didn't do anything. It changed into a werid colour. It changed into colour.
Texture
It went stiffIt didn't really feel like anything just the nomarl salt.It didn't really feel like anything just the nomarl baking soda.Stiff and hard.
Smell
Didn't have a smell.Didn't have a smell .It smells werid.Smells bad.
Iodine
Changed colour. It turned yellow.Changed into a colour. It went hard and turned back.
Water
Didn't do anything.Didn't do anything.Didn't do anything. It rolled off cornflour.
Vinegar
When we drop it, it started turning into a bubble.Just made a gray stain.Once you drop it in it blows up a bubble. No reaction.

Write a paragraph about your findings.

Today is my forth exiperment i did today. I just realise that baking soda can dissolves into a bubble but only if you put vinegar and I think that was really cool how it turn into bubble because it was so satisfying to watch. I have two photo that meaning about this experiment. This is probably my favoutive experiment I have done seen I have been going to science. What i learnt was lodine can stain your clothes and I didn't know it was a thing.

Hope you enjoy and i will be posting all of these kind of blog post like this.

My Holiday Story.

Every Wednesday I go for netball training, I go to the same place I go to play netball. We have to trained because so our netball skills improve but if you don't go to training you don't get a full game, you only get a half game so that means you only get to play 2 or 3 quarters.

Every Saturday I play a netball game at the netball courts. I started my first netball game for this season last Saturday. I was really excited to play netball this season because I have a really good team and I knew some people in my team. I was talking to my mum about the netball game today and I said,"I am going to try my hardest today and be the best I can be".

Saturday was a really busy day for me because I had to watch my sister Michaela play netball at 9:00 and then when her game finished, we went to my other sister Emma game but she was playing league.

3:00…
When it was 3:00 I had to go to the netball courts for my game. I got really frustrated because my game was in the afternoon.

We versed Belfast and I saw my cousin was in that team, it was so awkward. I played my first game and I was playing goalkeeper for the whole game. I actually played the best netball game I have ever played because I got lots and lots of intercept and my mum was very very proud of me.
The netball game had finished and we played only 4 quarters every game we play. Unfortunately, we lost. The scores were 14/10 and my mum was doing the scores. We had to shake their hands at the end and then it was time for the coaches to announce the player of the day.

The player of the day was…
ME!

Everyone was so proud of me and I was proud of myself too.

Skittles Experiment- Science

This is another experiment my group did today we did a skittles experiment this is actually my favourite experiment I did today.

We added the skittles and we speared them out the outside the petrie dish so the water can dissolves into the skittles to make the colours move into the middle and change colours. I really hope you really enjoy my blog post.

Materials
- Petrie dish.
- Skittles.
-Water.

Steps

Step 1: Get the petrie dish.
Step 2: Put the skittles on the pertrie dish.
Step 3: speared them out but put them on the outside.
Step 4: Put the water in let it absorb into the skittles.
Step 5: Wait and see what happens.

Conclusion: What have I learnt from this experiment?

Today this is my second experiment i did today. I just realise that skittles can dissolves but what coner the skittles stay on, well they auctally did stay on there own conoer. Here are the photo that I took and there is a before and after one.

I hope you enjoy and I hope you could do this experiment too. One more thing back with this experiment you can do it with anything like you could do this with m&m, you could make anything with this experiment but you wouldn't image making lots of little thing out of this.

Hope you enjoy and i will be posting all of these kind of blog post like this.
